POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a highly motivated and patient-focused Staff Pharmacist to join our team. The Staff Pharmacist will be responsible for providing pharmaceutical care services to patients and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals. Experience within HIV care and 340B preferred but not required.
Primary Function
The Staff Pharmacist shall perform duties assigned by the Pharmacist-In-Charge (PIC). The scope of these duties shall be consistent with those of a Staff Pharmacist. Staff Pharmacists shall be trained to perform multiple functions within the scope of their job description. It is the responsibility of the Pharmacist-In-Charge (PIC) to ensure that Staff Pharmacists maintain adequate skill levels for those functions for which they have been trained. It is the responsibility of the Pharmacist-in-Charge to ensure that Staff Pharmacists maintain adequate skill levels for each of these functions through ongoing supervision, mentoring, monitoring and evaluation of practice based operational activities.
PROCEDURE:
The Staff Pharmacist Reports to: Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) Supervises: All pharmacy technicians, certified technicians and pharmacy students (pharmacy interns).
Requirements
- Analytical skill: Pharmacists must provide safe medications efficiently. To accomplish this task the pharmacist shall evaluate a customer’s needs, evaluate the prescriber’s orders, and have extensive knowledge about the effects and appropriate circumstances for giving out a specific medication.
- Communication skills: Pharmacists frequently offer advice and counseling to customers. They might need to explain how to take a medicine, for example, and what its side effects are, because improper use of medication can pose serious health risks. They also need to offer clear direction to pharmacy technicians and interns.
- Detail oriented: Pharmacists are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the prescriptions they fill prior to dispensing the prescription to the patient.
- Managerial skills: Pharmacists must have good managerial skills, including managing inventory and overseeing a staff.
- Responsible for all activities related to dispensing medications.
- Facilitate new business and oversee timely and accurate delivery of services to clients.
- Work collaboratively with administration, physician and nursing staff to provide quality care.
- Ensure that billing documents and inventory control records are completed and accurate.
- Ensure pharmacy complies with all local, State and federal laws and regulations (including HIPAA)
- Participate in continuing quality improvement activities.
- Responsible and accountable for operational budgets ensuring that the operation of department is within budget guidelines and providing explanation of significant variances.
- Ensure strict compliance with all standardized professional policies and procedures.
- Participates in annual pharmacy budget projections.
- Participates in the selection and hiring of pharmacy staff including pharmacists, technicians, and support staff.
- Comply with all state and federal laws and regulations.
- Operate in a manner consistent with professional, ethical, and legal standards of proper pharmacy practice.
- Monitor stock replenishment, inventory levels, policies/procedures, record keeping, security, sanitation, scheduling, proper operation of all equipment, pricing, planograms, returns, budgets, reports to management, and product recalls per company, state and federal policy
- Make a strong and continuous effort to broaden personal knowledge and pharmacy skills
Typical Duties
- Fill prescriptions, verifying instructions from prescribing practitioners on the proper amounts of medication to dispense to patients.
- Conduct drug clinical screening to ensure that prescription(s) will not interact negatively with other drugs including non-prescription medications that a patient is taking or health conditions the patient is being treated for.
- Counsel patients on how and when to take a prescribed medicine and any potential side effects they may experience from taking the medicine.
- Advise patients about general health topics, such as diet, exercise, and managing stress, and on other issues, such as what equipment or supplies would be best for a health problem.
- Contact providers to complete insurance prior authorization forms and work with insurance companies to be sure that patients receive their medicines in a timely fashion.
- Oversee the work of pharmacy technicians and pharmacists in training (interns).
- Keep records and other administrative tasks.
- In-service other healthcare practitioners about proper medication therapies for patients.
Qualifications and Licenses
- Licensed pharmacist requires graduating from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), such as a Doctor of Pharmacy Program (Pharm.D.) program and passing the North American Pharmacist Licensure Exam, or NAPLEX.
- Must hold a current unrestricted pharmacist license in state of Texas.
- One to three years of experience working in a retail (ambulatory) pharmacy setting
- One year experience in a managerial position.
- Must be detailed oriented, able to multi-task and possess good people skills
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $53.00 - $55.00 per hour
